Presence/Contacts: Describes features available for determining user presence/availability and presence of others
Presence Status Modes/Description of vendor approach to Presence General description of vendor approach to presence.  Presence status modes available on the system for viewing by others, how they are set and how they are used.  Glossary definitions for each state are generic.  Vendors may have different uses and meanings for the same terms.
 · Available Generally available for one or more forms of communications.
 · Online Logged in to the system and connected to a private or public network.
 · On a call or conference On the phone (may include PC phone, desk phone, mobile phone).
 · In a meeting Based on calendar or manual entry.
 · At place of work May indicate general availability and may include specific location information.
 · Traveling on business Availability may be limited.
 · On vacation May be totally unavailable.
 · Do not disturb Not available for conversations.  Some systems allow this state but include ability to create exceptions via rules wizards.
 · Out for lunch Temporarily unavailable or available via mobile device.
 · Temporarily unavailable Generally category indicating delayed availability.
 · Location (work office, time zone, city, etc.) Specific location information.
 · Next time contact is available Provides information from either calendar or manual entry as to next time person will be generally available.
 · Other presence status modes Other presence information, e.g., on call with customer, typing message on computer, utilizing specific application, etc.

Programmable presence status modes Administrator can change the preset words used for each status mode and can add other modes.
Source devices for automated presence availability System ability to automatically obtain availability/presence information from the following types of devices:  analog phones/analog devices, digital phones, IP phones, SIP phones, mobile phones, mobile PDA/smartphones, computers/PCs, RFID devices, GPS devices, other devices.

Control rules can also be based on presence status and media/device availability.

Initiate callback when available The contact initiator can tell the system to track availability of both parties and automatically initiate callback to both parties when both are available.
Rules based media for automated notification Users can set up rules to define which media will be used to notify them when events occur which they have specified, including calls or messages based on preset rules.

User created contact lists Users can create their own contact or buddy lists by entering information directly and copying/downloading contacts from other directories or messages such as IM's and e-mails.

Photo of individual associated with presence status Contact information can include a picture of the individual.
Users can enter free form text to indicate presence status Ability to type in status message viewable by others when accessing/viewing the user's contact or presence information.
Presence status includes calendar content (description of current user activity) Calendar content such as meeting name, location, participants, web url, etc. can be automatically included in presence information.
Users can fill in own profile information Users can fill in their own profile information in directories and contact lists.
Directory/user profile can include skills, organization, supervisor, team(s), location, etc. Directories and user profiles contain robust information about individuals, including skills, organization, supervisor, team affiliations, office locations, etc.  May be used for locating individuals with specific skills for immediate support.
User profile fields customer programmable Administrators can program customized fields for directories and user profiles.
Profile/contact search function Contact lists and user profiles can be searched with the aid of automatic search functions to find desired individuals.  Often this includes "type ahead" capability in which the search function initiates with the entry of the first few characters.  Search parameters often include:  name, e-mail address, phone number, SIP address, nickname, etc.
Out of office or user typed status message presented when appropriate Global information user provides to indicate he/she is out of the office is presented when others access presence status or try to contact user according to rules.
Presence information presented for groups User can select an entire group at once and see presence of all individuals.  May include ability to see aggregated group presence (are all members of the group available or not?
Presence status/user name appears in office applications Presence information appears in WORD, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Lotus Notes, etc.
Presence status/user name appears in other applications Presence information appears in other business applications.
Presence status accessible/controllable by business application software interface A software program can interface with the UC client and determine presence status of users and may be able to adjust it based on programmed criteria such as, user is working in a specific application.
Profile and presence status can be searched by business application software interface A software program can search the profile and presence status indicators to find individuals meeting certain criteria such as available and possessing specific skills.
Reports provided on time spent in each presence status Predefined reports showing time each user spent in each presence state.
